In 1994 Asperger’s Syndrome was officially recognized. In 2013, it was no longer an official diagnosis. Today, it all falls under the category of Austism Spectrum Disorder. In my mind I see it as a line, right in the middle is what we label as “Normal”; the far left being severe autism, and the far right being an unlabeled disorder I call highly social with no social skills. I am left of normal. As an introverted, left of normal, entrepreneur and business owner, I have encountered a ton of unique problems in my life that required out-of-the-box solutions. Let’s work together to create a better world, learn how to adapt, and thrive as we live life to the Left of Normal.

Holden Sery joins us and talks about how he learned about Aspergers, what it has taught him about himself, and what everyone should know when dealing with an elementary aged Left of Normal.
About the 6 minute mark he talks about his special interests, notice how his tone changes and the excitement in his voice picks up.

There is one, I can’t remember which one, I talk about how I don’t like the ideas of Aspergers Syndrome or Autism Spectrum Disorder, as syndrome and disorder imply there is something wrong that needs to be fixed.

I love that he says he that he is proud to be an aspy! That’s super encouraging. Going to have my son listen, he will really relate. We recently told him about his NON-disorder of ”ASD”. We are looking into ADHD as well. There is alot of overlap between the two. Will look to see if you have any episodes regarding ADHD. Thanks for sharing.
